On September 26, Yang Ting and Zhang Chen, ECNU students from School of Design, were awarded Red Dot Award: Design Concept for their work “LINK” on the grand award ceremony of the 2014 Red Dot Design Award which was held in Singapore. Their design was jointly directed by Dai Yunting, Lu Junshi and Liu Fei, teachers from School of Design, ECNU.

Using magnet GPS technology, “LINK” attempts to create a link between children and their guardians at travel since there have been so many cases involving lost children in crowded public places like shopping malls, parks and so on. The two special-made bracelets will issue vibrating alerts when users are in certain distance from each other, and the pointers in the bracelets will point to the certain direction of each other. And when not in use, the bracelets can be flattened and interlocked for better storage.

Red Dot Design Award, established by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, a well-known German design association, has a history of more than 50 years. As the top honor in industrial design and “the Oscar in international design world”, it is recognized as one of the biggest and most prestigious design awards worldwide. ECNU was rated one of the best universities in Asia-Pacific region again by Red Dot Design List this year, ranking 15thand being the only one to get such prize in Shanghai.
